homeless story...
wow, i'm still a little overwhelmed by the whole experience. i'm thankful for the exposure that channel 2 provided and, in particular, the job that kuren redmond & her cameraman did putting together the piece.
the news site is currently linking to my drive-bys blog HERE.
too cool! this is a really nice end to 2008 & beginning to 2009.
HERE is the actual interview.

homeless story on TV tonight...
channel 2 is doing a story on homelessness at 11PM tonight. i was interviewed this afternoon for the work that i'm doing on my drive-bys blog.
wow...was i ever nervous being on that side of the camera. now i truly know how my clients feel. hopefully i made the cut. so, if you happen to be up at that time and are able to tune in....give me a shout and lemme know how i did.
my fingers are crossed that nothing was hanging out of my teeth or nose :) i don't even remember what i said. ugh...my nerves.

warmth for the homeless
today i was able to provide some photo coverage for constellation energy. the company is collecting blankets, coats, gloves, hats, etc...for local shelters. this time of year, these items are essentials for anyone who has the misfortune of being on the streets.
given the economy & recent lay-offs...it was really amazing to see the number of donations from employees. here are a few shots from the sorting/counting....

james joyce pub...
back in august i took some pro bono photos to help on the marketing front. ok...truth be told...maybe i was hoping to secretly gain a norm-like tab for life :) the images found their way on the pub's myspace page...which put a smile on my face. i thought that was the end of the story.
apparently the james joyce website received an over-haul...and the images that i thought were once banished to myspace came to life. pretty schweet! what an awesome surprise.
you can check out the site here.
if you're in the area...please stop by. like ireland, it's the people that make this place special. trust me.
thanks katie!!! slainte!

Cans for Comments
Tis the season. I won't take credit for coming up with the idea, but when I heard about it I wish that I had. For every comment that I receive on my blog (between now and 15Dec08), I will donate 1 can of food to a local shelter in Baltimore.
So browse around. Check out my world. Leave a comment on any post that you'd like and I'll be tallying up the totals and sharing them with you on 16Dec08. Please note, this includes my Drive-bys blog as well.
Spread the word & share the cheer.
Thanks so much for helping out! From my family to yours....have a great holiday season!
Cheers,
John

the end of an era...
As I write this post I'm very sad. The state of my world is dramatically different. Changed forever.
As many of you know (perhaps not) I do have a day job. My photo career continues to blossom and may one day take over...but until then...I have a day job.
Cuts are eminent. We don't know when...but rest assured...they are coming. Our company is in the news -- the live, late-breaking, sound bite. Internally, there is chatter everywhere. Hallway meetings. People fear for their jobs. We wait. We listen. We try to work. We attempt to focus. We wait. We listen.
We wonder what happened. We wonder what we will do if we fall victim to the hatchet. We wonder how dramatically different our lives could become. What jobs exist out there in this economy? How will the bills be paid? How will we ultimately provide?
Whether I survive or not...I'm sad. The sense of loss is palpable. The surreal feeling is numbing.
These are sad times. It's the end of an era.

alexander
The weekend before Thanksgiving I had the opportunity to hang-out with Alexander. At first glance, this little guy wanted nothing to do with me. Shy. Very shy. The ice was broken when he gave me a dog treat to give to his dog Daisy. Afterwards, I asked him if he wanted to see some of my camera equipment....and then all guards were down.
Alexander continued by giving me a tour of the house and some unbelievable smiles and antics. Danielle & Del...thanks for understanding as we tromped thru the house. You guys were great. Your home is beautiful. Your little boy is awesome.
Hope you like this sneak peek...
